MATLAB User Group Conference – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

On November 7th, 2024, the MATLAB User Group Conference took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and brought together more than 50 leading professionals from the country’s top research centres and companies. This invite-only event provided an outstanding opportunity to exchange knowledge, discuss innovations, and explore how MATLAB is supporting cutting-edge research and industry needs in Saudi Arabia.

Speaker at podium with microphoneThe day kicked off with an insightful keynote speech from Dr. Sami AlHumaidi, Managing Director of the prestigious PSDSARC (Petroleum Services and Data Science Advanced Research Center), setting the tone for a series of informative and impactful presentations. Dr Sami told us of how he became a fan of MATLAB back in his student days and how his teams at PSDSARC are currently applying the technology across their workflows. His speech highlighted the growing role of data science and advanced technologies in driving research and development in the Kingdom.

Following the keynote, the event featured a series of engaging technical sessions. Presenters from prominent defense manufacturers, including Abdulaziz Al Shehri from SAMI Advanced Electronics and Abdulaziz Almiman from Intra Defense shared their expertise on how MATLAB is being leveraged for defense technology advancements. Both presentations were thought-provoking and informative, showcasing real-world applications of MATLAB in this critical sector. A technical presentation from Dr Mobien Shoaib from PSDSARC provided further depth into the evolving role of MATLAB in research and development, and in particular the work at the Radar and Communications Systems Lab.

These presentations demonstrated the versatility of MATLAB and its ability to address the unique challenges faced by these rapidly developing industries.

Another highlight of the event for many attendees was the opportunity to engage with our technical team, who were on hand throughout the day to showcase key features of MATLAB. Attendees had the chance to explore the latest MATLAB capabilities, ask specific questions about their own workflows, and receive advice on their projects.
